The Seasons' First

When I look back I can see we've mowed as early as April 15th before but never as early as March 27th!

And after a little perusal I think that might be some crabgrass that's already sprouted so I'm taking back the crabgrass preventer I just bought at Menards. What an odd year!

Harvey And Natalie Time

I spent the afternoon on Thursday with Harvey while Natalie was at school. We made a very short phone call to Grandma Connie.

I asked if I could see where his tonsils were.

And we both posed for a "serious" photo. 

Natalie got home from school and was still in her studious frame of mind. Or maybe it was because it still hurt where we eventually found a tick in her hair.

But since I had such a nice picture with Harvey I wanted one with Miss N too.

And the two of them together? Priceless!

Surprisingly Good Day For A Picnic!

Cher took the kids to Wee Wednesday at Sargents Nursery today and needed a place to park to have a picnic in the back of the van.

So I had my lunch all packed and joined them down in our basketball court when I got home. I thought we'd get rained on but it was just as dry as can be. The kids were pretty proud of the sunflowers they'd made at their workshop.

Dumpster Diving

How's the bathroom remodel going? It's....going. Actually, stuff has proceeded quite steadily and we think the really messy stuff is over. Ugh! That sheetrock dust is AW-ful! We salvaged some of the scraps for a patch project in the laundry room we've been just covering up for a couple of years.

Really, we can't complain too much about the progress. The crews have been coming in one right after another. Today neither one of us was up yet at 7:15 when the tile guy knocked on the door to do the first step for the flooring. Except for the shower door the bathroom could be usable by mid to late next week!

Bowling...But Not For Dollars

On Friday we went with some friends and their kids on a little bowling outing. Turned out the dads were in charge while the ladies chitchatted and had a beverage! Claire had a little help from the bumperpads on some of her shots but amazingly converted quite a few spares like what's left on this one. She ended up with a 103! (My bad. It was 126!)

It was a cute bunch of kids showing off their stuff!

Dressed For The Season

I just don't think we're going to have any more winter this year. So the girls' wardrobe has switched over to spring!

Sure And Begorrah!

I'm not particularly Irish but I've had green beer before! Happy St. Patrick's Day to the Irish amongst you!

Two little girls I know had Leprachauns visit their pre-school classes on Friday. And what silly little devils they were...tipping over chairs and setting trash cans up on the tables. But they left some treats behind too. We're actually going to celebrate a little by having corned beef and cabbage at Cathy's in Pine Island with my folks tonight. Well...not Jill. She's going to stick with broasted chicken!

A Full Morning With The Girls

So Saturday the girls came over while their mommy slept. We had to go downstairs for something and ended up bringing up three exercise balls.

You may have guessed they weren't used for much exercise!

Jill caught us in a moment where none minded the camera aimed in our faces.

I have reading glasses laying all over the place and they wanted to see what

they'd look like in them.

There actually were times of cooperation when they worked together to pick out their favorite magnets.

I caught them with a middle-of-the-snack smile.

We thought they might like to try the Just Dance video. Try to ignore the big lug with no rhythm behind them.

And we ended up at McDonald's for lunch. Imagine that!

Look closely, you can see Claire's new boots. And Cate? Her feet were hot so her boots came off!

Not Before. Not After...But During.

Eventually, I can show a before and after picture of the remodeling in Jill's bathroom but right now it's all very preliminary!

Actually, this was just the morning's work. By the time the carpenter left in the afternoon he had this all cleaned up and the studs in place for the new wall.

...grapefruit? Sure looks like one.

But it's a pummelo. As you see, much bigger than your ordinary grapefruit.

I wasn't sure what it was at the store the other day but in our efforts to eat more fruits I thought I'd give it a try. It's sweeter than a grapefruit and really quite good but at $2.88 for one of them I don't think I'll be adding it to my regular intake!

Spring Cleaning

We have this dumpster parked in our front yard now and my neighbor was quite impressed with the vigor of the spring cleaning she thought we were going to do!

Jill's been wanting to re-do her bathroom for quite awhile and it's finally going to happen. For one thing, twenty-one years ago we always suspected that the doofus plumber put her shower in backwards and it was confirmed by one of the guys that gave an estimate. So she's going to have it ripped out and replaced with tile along with the flooring. The whole thing will be bigger so there'll be room for a double vanity. And she's going to have some built-in cabinets placed along the south wall of the bedroom. So it's a pretty good mess around here right now and it's going to be that way for about a month by the time all the parts come in. Our aim is for it to be done by Easter.

Being Crafty

Last Saturday was just wintry enough that it was still a good day to be working inside. So we asked folks to pack up their crafts and come over for a craft party. There was a little bit of everything going on. A little painting...

...a little sewing...

...some projects from Pinterest...

...a little gluing.

Kate had a project too but took some time out for mommying.

Then the Just Dance games came out! Mindy and Jon brought their videos along. Man! I tell ya, these guys are good!

And I have to take my hat off to my mom. We weren't even bugging her to try it. She volunteered! Pretty hot moves for a little old lady!

We were lucky enough to have all the Greats there (except in this picture they're Grands!) so we got a pose with their grandma.

Being so close to Cher's birthday we had a little celebration. Mindy brought a cake and the kids helped put on the candles. Harvey was so funny. When we stopped singing Happy Birthday it was like someone yelled "Go!" because he ran straight for the cake and blew out the candles! Of course we had to relight them so they could help the actual birthday girl with the task.
